I know you’re tired, kiddo,” the weariness in Sam’s voice is enough to make
his grace crack and bleed and he sweeps his thumb softly along his cheek.
“But you can’t let go, not this time. Heaven has been sealed up tight and
if you let go, I won’t be able to take you home. Not this time.”
Because what else could he do when he’d gone and done the unthinkable and
fallen in love with a pair of mortals? Gabriel stayed with them until the
end and gathered their souls up to take them home to Heaven. Tempering his
grief with the joy the felt at finally being able to see his true form and
to remember all the lives that they had lived together, the love that they
had shared.
“Don’t leave us behind Sam. Find your rest with us. We’re here and you’re
not alone anymore.”
His eyes flicker to a shadow gathering in the forest, a sharp-nosed figure
holding a cane. Calmly watching. Desperation colors Gabriel’s voice as he
strokes his hair. “You have to stay Sam. Please don’t go.”
